The
Annual Artoclasia of the Agios Athanasios Association of Perista
took place on Sunday January 24, 2010, at the Zoodohos Pighe
Church in the Bronx, New York. Following the Liturgy, a delicious
luncheon was served in the Church hall.
About 150 adults attended, including many children. The older
children presented to us with great pleasure many traditional
Greek dances. They deserve our congratulations, because these
children are third and fourth generation Peristians.
The Peristians in New York await this Artoclasia every year
with great anticipation.
The weather this year helped us tremendously with abundant
sunshine and a temperature of 55 degrees farenheit/ 11c.
We had two separate honorees, Father Sylvester for his ongoing
support of our Association, and Father John Roma (Rabaounis)
who at the last minute did not come.. |

Father
Sylvester is a priest at Zoodohos Pighe for many years, and
is very familiar with our fellow Peristians. We all love and
respect him as a priest, but also as a down to earth gentleman
for his good will. We see him as one of our own!
Our President, Mr. Gregory Chugranes presented him with a plaque,
and an icon of our patron Saint Athanasios. Father Sylvester
thanked all of us with his very gracious speech, and had a standing
ovation by all of us!
Our Association today, awarded two Scholarships of $ 1,000.00
each to two University students of Peristian descent: Laura
Prieston, and Alyssa Dossopoulos. |
| Laura
is the granddaughter of Theodora and Dimos Prieston (Papadopoulos)
from their son Evan. Theodora was born in Perista, and came
to the United States at the age of 12. She is the daughter
of Gregory Kefaliacos.
Alyssa is the granddaughter of George and Alexandra Dinis
from their daughter Dina.
This is the third straight year that our Association has presented
Scholarship Awards, and we are hopeful that this will continue
for many years to come. We are hopeful that if our financial
status allows us, we can raise the amount of the award for
the University students, and to be able to give more than
2 awards out.
It gives the association a great honor to do this. We are
sure in the years to come after they are settled in their
own professions, they will not forget that our association
presented to them a $1,000.00 scholarship award .Maybe this
amount does not look huge, but whomever of us were once University
students would appreciate its worth. |

Without
a doubt, the success of this affair is due to the fact that
a number of people worked tirelessly. Our President, Mr Chugranes
was busy making sure all of the details were in order, and
he certainly presented the program in an excellent manner.
Separately,
we would like to mention Mr. Kostas Kaganis, our Treasurer,
who was the main man in front and behind everthing that was
going on. He made sure the seating arrangements were in perfect
order which he prepared with his lovely wife Katina the day
before, he was even watching that the food with his watchfull
eye, was prepared and served in the correct manner. May God
always have him well, and may our Patron Saint Athanasios
always be with him.
The
Greek newspaper "Ethnikos Kyriks", had a article
in their paper of our Artoclasia.(see
