KING PAUL I AWARDS THE ST. ATHANASIOS ASSOCIATION
A ROYAL CERTIFICATE OF MERIT IN 1958


In 1958, upon the recommendation of the Royal National Foundation, King Paul 1 awarded our Association a (Royal) Gold Certificate of Merit for its generous funding of the construction of the 30 km road leading from the city of Thermon to Perista. The contents of the letter sent to the Association by the Royal National Foundation appear below.

of Perista:
Athens, November 19, 1958
 We have the honor of informing you that His Majesty
King Paul 1 has decided to award your Association the Gold Certificate
of Merit (Local Government, Class A ) for its magnanimous
gift to our nation towards the construction of the public road leading
from the village communities of Perista and Perkos to the city
of Thermon, Aitoloakarnanias.
We congratulate you and we inform you that the award
will be presented by the Consul General of Greece in New York
at a formal ceremony to be determined by him at a later date.

Note: The certificate was presented on May 24, 1959 by the then Consul General of Greece in New York, Mr. Konstantine Milliaresi. The ceremony was attented by more than 300 Peristians here in America and other guests which included friends of the Association as well as representatives of other Hellenic Organizations.
